World Elephant Day is an international annual event on August 12, dedicated to the preservation and protection of the world’s elephants. This is also urgently needed in 2020 because elephants are threatened with extinction. Worldwide, elephants are struggling for survival. People intrude on their habitat; their food, water and migration routes disappear. To survive, elephants are forced to search for food and water outside of protected areas, resulting in conflicts between elephants and people.
For the future of elephants!
Elephants are a keystone species in the ecosystems they are part of. Elephants disperse seeds, maintain grasslands and find water, all crucial for the survival of other species. We need to do everthing possible to better the chance of survival for elephants worldwide. We need to create a world where people and elephants can coexist in harmony, benefiting from each other’s existence.
